Contest

No rules (some rules), high energy and FUN! 
 

We are excited to feature five contests during the weekend this year: Balboa Social, Amateur Lindy Hop Social,
Advanced Lindy Hop Social, Lindy Hop Couples, Switch Strictly and Solo. We want our event to be a safe,
welcoming, supportive and inclusive ​place to compete. 

Sign ups for contests will be available during your registration process.
You must be registered for either a Full Weekend Pass or a Dancer/Competitor Pass in order to enter the
contest.

 

You will get your competitor numbers at the check in or at the evening dance of that contest during finals check-in. Please arrive promptly to ensure we start on time.

CONTEST FEES & PRIZES

*All competitors must purchase a contest pass or full weekend pass
Cash prizes are $100 for 1st, $75 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd.
Midnight comps: Switch Strictly and Solo Challenge 1st place winners only ($100/winner)

Lindy Hop Couples:  $50 per couple 
Balboa Social: $25 per person 
Amateur Lindy Hop Social: $25 per person 
Advanced Lindy Hop Social: $25 per person 
Switch Strictly: $50 per couple 

Solo Challenge: $25 per person

 

Contest Prizes 

All winners will receive cash (1st place $100 per person/2nd Place $75 per person/3rd Place $50 per person) 
1st Place winners will also receive prize passes to events such as Lindy Focus and Camp Hollywood.

Contest Schedule
Friday

Switch Strictly

Contest fee: $50 per couple
Location: All Pilgrims Church - Sanctuary Hall

Start Time: Saturday 12AM 

Check-in Time: 11:45 PM

Couples will switch lead and follow roles multiple times throughout their dancing. 
There will be a tap in format in the prelims with a final jam style format with the 3-5 finalists.

We will continue immediately to the finals with a jam-style spotlight showcase to DJ'd music. 
The final winner will be selected by audience applause. Whoever captures the audience's
attention and admiration will win!

Tempo Range: 190-200 bpm 

Winners will be selected for 1st, 2nd & 3rd placements.

Saturday

Amateur Lindy Hop Social Prelims
Contest fee: $25 per person

Location: Century Ballroom

PRELIMS Start Time: Saturday 3:30PM

Check-in Time: 3:15 PM

The Amateur Lindy Hop Social will be open to beginner and intermediate dancers only. If you are registered for the
Advanced Track, you are not eligible. No partner required.  
You will rotate partners three times and will be judged individually in the prelims.

Advanced Lindy Hop Social Prelims
Contest fee: $25 per person

Location: Century Ballroom

PRELIMS Start Time: Saturday 4PM

Check-in Time: 3:30PM

Advanced Lindy Hop Social will be open to all advanced and high level dancers only.  No partner required.  
You will rotate partners three times and will be judged individually in the prelims.

 

Amateur Lindy Hop Social Finals

Location: Washington Hall

FINALS Start Time: Saturday 10:00 PM

Check-in Time: 9:30 PM

In the finals, you will be randomly paired with someone and you will be judged as a couple.
Finals will be danced to live music. The contest will begin with a short warm up all skate, followed by a

jam style spotlight with a single couple on the floor for a full chorus (16 eight counts) followed by each

couple going again for a half chorus (8 eight counts) concluding with a final all skate until the end.

Tempo Range: 150-180 bpm 

Winners will be selected for 1st, 2nd & 3rd placements.

Advanced Lindy Hop Social Finals

Location: Washington Hall

In the finals, you will be randomly paired with someone and you will be judged as a couple.
Finals will be danced to live music. The contest will begin with a short warm up all skate, followed by a

jam style spotlight with a single couple on the floor for a full chorus (16 eight counts) followed by each

couple going again for a half chorus (8 eight counts) concluding with a final all skate until the end.

Tempo Range: 170-200 bpm 

Winners will be selected for 1st, 2nd & 3rd placements.

Solo Contest
Contest fee: $25 per person

Location: All Pilgrims Church - Sanctuary Hall

Start Time: Saturday 1 AM 

Check-in Time: 12:45 AM
This contest is open to everyone and is a lot of fun. We will play different types of music

(Charleston, Swing, Jazz, maybe a surprise style mixed in).  Bring your best SOLO dancing.  

The preliminary heat will be danced as an all-skate.  Judges will select competitors to advance to the finals.  

We will continue immediately to the finals with a jam-style battle to DJ'd music.  The final winner will be
selected by audience applause. Whoever captures the audience's attention and admiration will win! 
Tempo Range: Anything Goes!

Sunday

Balboa Social Prelims 

Contest fee: $25 per person

Location: Century Ballroom

Start Time: 3:30 PM

Check-in Time: 3:15 PM
This is an open competition to all levels of Balboa dancers. No partner required. Dancers will rotate partners
three times and will be judged individually in the prelims.

Balboa Social Finals 

Location: Washington Hall

Start Time: Saturday 10 PM 

Check-in Time: 9:30 PM

In the finals, you will be randomly paired with someone and you will be judged as a couple. 
Finals will be danced to live music. The contest will begin with a short warm up song at about 210 bpm,

followed by a jam style spotlight with 2 couples on the floor at the same time each pair having

2 full choruses (32 eight counts) once followed by a final all skate until the end.

Tempo Range: 210-230 bpm

Lindy Hop Couples Prelims
Contest fee: $50 per couple

Location: Century Ballroom

Start Time: Saturday 4 PM

Check-in Time: 3:30 PM

Open to all levels. You will dance with your partner to several songs at different tempos and the
finalists will beselected for the finals Sunday evening. The finals will be jam style format to live music.

Lindy Hop Couples Finals 

Location: Washington Hall

FINALS Start Time: Sunday 11 PM

Check-in Time: 10:30 PM

Finals will be battle and jam style format to live music. No competitor numbers will be needed.

The contest will begin with a short warm up all skate, followed by a jam style spotlight with a single

couple on the floor for a full chorus (16 eight counts) followed by each couple going again for a

half chorus (8 eight counts) concluding with a final all skate until the end.
Tempo Range: 220-230 bpm ​​

Spirit of Lindy Hop

This has been our most important award of the weekend for decades.  This award goes to a special someone

at the camp who exemplifies the Spirit of Lindy Hop by participation, positive attitude, friendliness, spreading

the love of Lindy Hop and overall awesomeness.  The Spirit of Lindy Hop is announced at the Awards Ceremony

on Sunday night and is awarded a full weekend pass to the following Camp Jitterbug year and a pair of dance shoes
from SAF Shoes!!
